The RHS photographic competition 2009 is now open for entries.

Budding photographers and gardening enthusiasts can enter their photographs under any of six categories with the top prize of £1,000 and the title RHS Photographer of the Year, well worth getting your camera out for.

Here are the categories for adult entrants:

  • Plant portrait
Showing a plant as a whole identity including petals, stems and leaves

  • Plant close-up
    Focusing on certain detail

  • Garden view
    A garden landscape

  • Wildlife in the garden
Insects, birds and creatures found in the wild

  • People in the garden
Garden lovers in their natural habitat

  • Garden edibles
Fruit and vegetables that have been grown in a garden or allotment

The winner of the discretionary Medici award will receive the title of Medici Photographer of the Year plus see their image reproduced on an RHS greetings card.

Children and young people are not missed out either with two categories available to enter: Budding Photographer for aged 14 to 18 years and In the Garden for aged 13 years and under.

The closing date for entries is 30th October 2009.
